About Us
All my life I have had a creative side. From music to drawing and other media, I tried to find my outlet. I began to think maybe being creative wasn't my calling. I joined the Navy and spent the next several years traveling the world - experiencing new things and gaining inspiration that I felt I could apply to artistic expression. It took a great tragedy to open my eyes to a new possibility.
In the months following hurricane Katrina I gained tons of experience remodeling houses. While searching the internet for countertops to complete one of the remodel jobs, I came across the CHENG concrete web site. After seeing all the amazing creations it was clear to me that custom concrete design would be the direction my life would take.
Soon after, I began my training in the CHENG style of concrete countertops. David Akers with Amelia Concrete in Atlanta is a certified trainer in the CHENG technique and he brings over 30 years of experience to the art of custom concrete. Working along side Mr. Akers I realized that the creative possibilities were only limited by imagination. From the moment I poured my first mold my imagination has run wild with ideas. Living near the coast I understand the appeal of outdoor living. Pool side furniture and outdoor kitchens are just the tip of the concrete design iceberg.
CHENG Concrete Certified
Cheng Design is known internationally for its innovative concrete forms produced in the Berkeley workshop. The firm has reinvented the traditional kitchen and bathroom by using concrete as a sculptural element and incorporating the aesthetics of Nature. Carvings and inscriptions, inlays and artifacts, and objets trouvés are worked into colored plaster and concrete, integrating the spontaneous act of drawing with the construction of countertops and walls.
